It's been a hectic few months around here, as you can probably tell with this being the first newsletter of 2007! <laughing> Ah well, we've been updating the site all along, so even if the newsletters are few and far between, remember that you can always check the What's New page on our site to see the newest record and link additions. It takes no less than 12 hours to put this newsletter together, format it for the web, message board and email, and then send all the emails by myself, so please forgive the delay on it.
The site has been getting an amazing 3,000-4,000 unique visitors a month for over a year now, with a couple of months almost reaching 6,000! It just continues to grow at an incredible rate, what an unexpected blessing. We've also been making many great connections on the message board and many of you are taking the time to help each other, for which I am grateful. Many of you have also been sending in resource suggestions and other correspondence and compliments, as well as helping by reporting bad links - thank you! Without your cooperation, the site could not be nearly as great as it is.
If anyone has the necessary info for any reunions coming up and can email it to me, I'll be happy to put it on the site calendar. Since adding records related resources usually takes priority, I haven't had much time to look around for any reunions and events lately, but I know there's tons of great ones going on out there right now.
My cousin Pat sent me 99 Kentucky related links a while back that I still have yet to go through, so I'm sure we'll have even more great new additions soon. Linda, a senior member on our message board, has been posting recent eastern Kentucky obits faithfully. Thanks so very much to both of you! You can't imagine how helpful you've been to me.
We've received absolutely no donations since June of 2006. With that being the case, obviously we've been unable to contribute to any genealogy related dedications, projects and memorials as we have in past years with amounts left over after site related costs have been paid. I'm hoping they will pick up, so that we can say we did so before 2007 is done. Any contributions would very much appreciated.
Here's hoping that you and yours are all doing well and enjoying the summer! I'll do my best to shoot for another newsletter by fall if possible. In the meantime, please join me in keeping our troops and their families in your prayers.

She nurtured children the world cast off from Kentucky.com Sandy Tucker, co-founder of the Galilean Children's Home in Casey County, died of complications from cancer. Mrs. Tucker, who cared for her two biological children and more than 800 others over more than 35 years, had been battling cancer since 2000.
A Capitol Fourth has great historical info on the Fourth of July. Make sure to watch the actual celebration on July 4th, 2007 on PBS. Check your local listings for the time in your area. Country Boys Watch online! Note: The description at the top of the page is incorrect, but this is the right link. From the PBS site: Floyd County in eastern Kentucky, where "Country Boys" was filmed, is located in the geographic center of America's Appalachian region. Eastern Kentucky's history epitomizes the problems that have long plagued the larger region: poverty, unemployment, poor education, and a troubled relationship with the coal industry. While "Country Boys" chronicles how Chris and Cody's lives defy many of the stereotypes commonly associated with the region, it also shows how their community still lives with the legacy of Appalachia's past.
